Shi simply wanted to go out and kill things and get paid for it. She needed new materials in order to remake her puppets after her last sparring match. Getting to use Shirogane’s puppet showed her staunch weaknesses in her own puppets so now she wanted to revamp them. She couldn’t have her tools of destruction be anything but the best.

This was far from her first mission although she typically hated going on them. She hated that many of the missions required having other people accompany her and most of the ones she could do alone were beyond remedial. Shi did not become a shinobi to look for losts dogs and children. She wanted to be stronger so she only went on missions that she was certain would involve conflict.

The white haired girl would approach the gate of Sunagakure in her black cloak. Her hood was down only so that she could be identified by whoever she was to be paired with. For her, this was the worst part of the entire mission. Her gaze was simply ahead, waiting for when she could head off to slay scorpions.

Not long after Shi's arrival, Yasei began strolling down the street, whistling a nondescript tune and tossing an apple in his off-hand. He looked ahead, seeing a familiar figure standing around in wait at the gates. "Ah, great..." Yasei sighed, wishing he would have read the dossier before he agreed to participate. "It figures she would be the one I'm stuck with."

Still, the thief swaggered over to the girl, and gave her an equally understanding yet displeased nod of the head. "Let's just do this and get it over with."

With grand disappointment, Shi turned her head to see who would be accompanying her on the mission. This has to be some mistake. Shi thought about it for a moment. Now that they were officially on a team, it was likely they would be prioritized to be put on missions together. She was going to have to get used to their presence whether she enjoyed them or not. Unless they died soon. That would relieve a lot of stress on her end. Hopefully that day would come a lot sooner than later.

“You sound like a prostitute.” These were the only words Shi had to offer before she began walking away from the gate towards their destination. She knew exactly where she needed to go and whether Yasei chose to continue accompanying her was no prerogative of hers. Shi just wanted to destroy things. Nothing more and nothing less.

As Shi pressed forward, the terrain changed from being slightly rocky to nothing more than the dunes of sand that they were probably familiar with by now. Their path from the village had long since been covered by the sands of the desert but Shi still knew where to go. Shi would keep walking without offering a single word, not even looking back to see if Yasei had been keeping up with her. Just as Shi started to traverse over another dune of sand, she noticed a small body of water in the distance.

“An oasis….” Shi said as she carefully walked down the sand. She had face planted many times trying to run down sand. She was honestly glad she had no friends to witness her occasional klutziness. As she got closer to the water, she noticed patterns in the ground nearby. “Footprints.” Shi spoke again in her monotone voice. Her eyes would follow the path of the footprints and saw that they headed far off into the distance. She was more concerned with where the footsteps would lead to. “They’re headed towards the scorpions. Probably dead by now.” Shi said with a light giggle. Her laugh had come out so suddenly that she had forgotten she was even trying to hide her true emotions. She was now too embarrassed to say anything more, though now she would look up to see if Yasei had managed to keep up with her or not.

Thinking about what he said, paired with Shi's always-blunt response, Yasei couldn't help but break his cool-guy demeanor with an amused chuckle. "Yeah, I guess I did, huh? Well, if I'm a prostitute, then— Oh." Apparently, Shi decided she was just gonna head off with or without the thief. "Alright, then." Yasei followed along, a meter or so between the two.

Soon enough, they were far enough out that the village was only a miniature shape against the horizon. Something caught Shi's attention, enough so that she verbalized it. In the distance, there was indeed an oasis. And footprints, to boot. Shi seemed to have some skill in hunting and tracking, which Yasei lacked, so he continued following her. Finally, the girl remarked about their direction, and followed up a theory that the scorpions were already dead with an atypical giggle. Yasei cocked his head in her direction, bewildered. "You're, uh...." The shaggy-haired thief trailed off for a moment, finding his words. "You're kind of a maniac, aren't you?"

Shi cocked a glance over to Yasei. Now that her facade had been compromised, she figured she would be a little more vocal. “ Rather a maniac than a thief.” Shi spat with no qualms. She knew nothing more about the boy other than the previous accusations made by Shirogane. Shi decided now would be the best time to follow the tracks that were left before the winds blew away the trail. With no warning at all, she would simply start walking away in track of where the footprints lead.

The path lead through a long trail of sand that would lead to one thing Shi found commonly throughout the desert. A dead body. A tanned skinned man wearing a white cloak typically worn by scientist laid lifelessly on the ground in a pool of blood that painted the sands a dark, murky brown. A massive hole had been torn through the man’s torso with the surrounding skin being a tainted purple. “Poison. Blood is pretty fresh too.”Shi said. As if not perturbed by the appearance of a dead body at all, Shi would now examine the surrounding area.

Only moments after her discovery of the dead body, the ground around them would begin shaking. Shi gripped onto her katana and looked ahead. Two enormous spots in the ground would begin sinking into the ground as pincers tore through the sands. Before long, two massive scorpions would burrow their away onto the surface, each being at least five meters in length with their tails standing five feet in height above them. “Babies. I want the one on the left.” Shi offered to Yasei as she fell into stance.

The thief's eyes narrowed. "Mmmmyeah, I guess I set myself up for that one..." Shi didn't tarry after her comment, immediately moving in the direction the tracks seemed to go off to. Yasei followed, keeping the meter distance between. A strange form laid in a crumpled heap on the sand not too far off, which the teen could recognize as he approached. It was a corpse, dressed in a white lab coat.

It wasn't the first time Yasei encountered a dead body. There was a very brief stint during his crime spree in which he, and two others, ran their heists together. While the former preferred to leave no trace, the latter two had no qualms of killing to gain entry or avoid being caught. The sights were always gruesome, and even though he was used to it by now, Yasei couldn't help but feel uneasy. "Yeesh. What was a stiff like him doing all the way out here? And what the hell is up with that big ass hole in his chest? Skin looks all mangy, too." Shi replied almost immediately, deducing that the man was poisoned, and recently. "Poison, huh? Do you think—"

Before he could finish his question, the dunes rumbled, and a pair of gargantuan pincers tore their ways to the surface. Yasei, without skipping a beat, flicked his tantō out of its sheath. Shi was similarly quick, choosing to take the left as she dropped into an offensive stance. "Right it is, then." The teen cracked his knuckles. "It's showtime, baby!"

As if finding a dead body in the middle of a desert wasn't enough, two human sized scorpions had now tried to claim Yasei and Shi as their next victim. The appearance of the scorpions was no surprise to her after seeing the spread of poison on the dead body. Shi had worked with poison a few times hwne developing her puppets but she never stuck with using it. She preferred quicker methods of taking her opponents out and using poisons seemed almost cowardly to her. Now that the culprits had been found, it was time to take them out. Shi carried nothing more right now than getting to absolutely pulverize the scorpion she had claimed. She paid no attention to other one as she had assigned that role to Yasei.

"-That's- how you start a fight? I mean, who are you even talking to?" Shi spoke with dry sarcasm he would most likely have no choice but to get used to. At least she was talking? With nothing more holding her back, Shi would leap from her position and charge directly at the scorpion with her sword. She would hold her blade in a thrusting motion in hopes that she would stab through the beast's skull in one swell movement. This notion was blocked once the scorpion's tail clashed against her sword. Shi would push the tail back in their collision and jump just a few meters back.

The white haired female would launch her katana at one of the scorpion's many legs as if she had been throwing a giant needle. Just as the blade would connect, the scorpion would swipe the blade away with its right pincer. Her katana would careen against the pincer and fly a few meters away, only to make a sharp turn around back towards the pincers claw. With just a few hand gestures from Shi, the blade would fly directly into the limb connecting to the pincer and pierce directly through the scorpion's claw. The pincer would fall to the ground, causing the beast to emit a loud screech. The scorpion would begin burrowing into the ground in an awkward fashion, having to do so now with just one pincer. The blade would now glide through the air handle first following the trail of the thing chakra string straight back into Shi's left hand. Shi would fall into stance once more with her Katana, concentrating on the area around her and waiting for hte scorpion to strike.

As for the scorpion that Shi had assigned to Yasie to take care of, this scorpion was a lot more eager to take the initiative in staring combat. The giant scorpion would scuffle towards Yasei and attempt claw the boy's torso with its giant right pincer. Whether the boy survived the encounter or not, Shi would leave him to deal with the other beast. For now her focus was solely on the one she was fighting.

"Loosen up, man, you'll never have fun if you — whoah!!" A decisive strike from his target cut Yasei's quip short, with the teen swiftly backpedaling to avoid the scorpion's advance, weaving through a number of hand seals before outstretching his arms and flinging several high-velocity discs of raiton chakra at his attacker. Though his technique was blitzing towards its target, the impressive agility of the scorpion allowed it to take little more than a glancing blow as it scurried further towards Yasei.

"Uh-uh-uh! Not too close there, pinchy! You really know how to make a guy claw-strophobic!" Again, Yasei wove his hands into a few seals, planting them on the ground suddenly. A ten-meter-wide web of electricity spread itself along the sand, something Shi might recognize from their first time meeting. The scorpion skidded to a halt, but not quite fast enough to stop itself from entering Yasei's trap. It writhed and screeched from the sudden current coursing through its body.

Yasei looked in Shi's direction, expecting a reaction. "Eh? Clllaaawwww-strophobic?" He smirked, amused at both his own joke, and the likelihood that Shi wouldn't enjoy it as much.

Shi stood patiently waiting for the beast to strike one more. Normally, when the enemy could burrow underground, it would seem as if she were at their mercy. Shi had no such fear. In fact, she encouraged the idea. Even though she might not have known where the enemy was, it did not change the fact that they had chosen the absolute worst terrain to face her against. In the desert, Shi was never at a disadvantage.

Her lavender eyes would close only for a moment to focus on her surroundings, paying close attention to every sound outside of Yasei’s battle with his scorpion. That was when she noticed a subtle sifting noise coming from behind her. Shi would immediately jump forward, contorting her body around to face her target. In a moment’s notice, the scorpion shot straight from the ground pincer first, ready to impale the girl through the chest. That was the moment the battle was over.

In the end, you dug your own grave. Shi’s right hand would thrust forward. Her hand would forcefully close into a ball as if she had been crushing something in between her fingers. At the moment this happened, all of the sand covering the scorpion’s body would condense around it quicker than any movement the scorpion could have made. The sand would crush the scorpion with such swiftness that the being wouldn’t even realize their demise. In fact the only assurance that the creature was now dead would be the half of its tail falling out of the sand and the splatters of insect juice (i don’t know what the fuck to call scorpion blood) that had oozed from the sand.

Shi would look over to her team mate to see if he had taken care of the scorpion. To her, his fight was a win/win situation. Either the scorpion died and they would continue their mission or he would die and she got to kill another scorpion. By the looks of it however, Yasei effectively detained the beast in a way that would also damage the beast to the point that it would be unable to do any further harm. With it’s injuries, it would most likely die off shortly afterwards. Not the kind of decisive, brutal kill Shi would have went for, but a defeat nonetheless. As for his joke, Shi offered an expected response. “That just made me even more suicidal.” She said so plainly.

Shi had already guessed that taking down these scorpions shouldn’t have been a problem. They were babies compared to the other scorpions Shi had encountered in completing the mission previously. Shi knew they were bound to encounter even larger ones along the way, the part she was most excited for. Her steps would now head back to the earlier discovered dead body, inspecting the body once more. As she examined the body, she realized that something had been lying under it. Shi would simply kick the dead body a few meters away with no regard and picked up a bloody piece of parchment.

“A map.” Shi said with a hint of curiosity in her voice. Shi would study the map and was able to decipher their location in relation to it. From their location on the map, a red line had been drawn heading towards the top right corner, although the destination had been covered by blood on the map. “We should follow the arrow. Find out where this guy was headed that was so important to die over.” Shi said with the same apathy. Shi saw death as the ultimate form of weakness so she had no remorse for the corpse. She would throw the blood stained map over to Yasei so that he could examine too before they started heading out again.

Shi had no issue dispatching her scorpion, and Yasei had sufficiently ensnared his. With a quick extra pulse of lightning channeled into the web, it was enough to overload the scorpion and fry it to a crisp. The thief stood, dispersing the web of electricity, and clapped the sand off of his hands.

At Shi's response, Yasei audibly snickered. "So predictable, man. Whatever, let's keep going." Shi doubled back around to the body, kicking it aside and picking up a suspiciously placed map. "A... map...? The hell was it doing under him? Seems fishy, if you ask me." With a swagger that was typical of his stride, Yasei moved to look over Shi's shoulder. "What's it say?"

A recent outbreak of large scorpions had been plaguing the sands near the village. As Shirogane was no stranger to large animals, it was no surprise she had been asked to check it out. What was a surprise, however, was that without her blessing two of her students had gone off first. It brought a smile to her face to know they were taking the initiative to train and to get to know each other. That smile beamed despite the scolding she had gotten earlier that day for not approving her Genin's mission and not accompanying them. She shrugged away the thought. "I've still got a lot to learn when it comes to being a sensei I guess." She clenched her fist and pumped them in front of her chest, "But that's the most fun part of it!"

It didn't take long for her to notice what could not be mistaken for anything other than the work of shinobi. Her brows raised before she smirked away the doubt. "Shi's sand and Yasei's lightning, no mistaking it. Hmm..." She began to tap her chin with her forefinger as she racked her brain on how to approach the pair. After a brief moment she decided on a course of action, albeit one that had the chance to backfire. The idea of that only made it more enticing! She clapped her hands and produced a puff of white smoke on the sand in front of her. The sound of clicking and chirping filled the air before the smoke dispersed and when it did two large animals, around a meter tall each, stood and stared up at Shirogane with her lilac eyes. Nodding to them once, the Underlings took off toward the sounds and displays of her students, leaving a giggling sensei behind them.

Shi tossed him the map with little to no disregard other than she didn’t want him getting in her way by being confused when they had to leave. “Can you not read? The arrow by the blood is headed to something and I’m going to find out what.” Shi spat. She wanted to hurry up and get to the part where she could kill things. Just as she was getting ready to head in the direction of the area, the sudden appearance of two more weird creatures caught her eye. They definitely weren’t any scorpions but they kept a similar insect feature of being immediately repulsive.

“What the hell…” Whatever the creatures were, they seemed to have posed a threat towards them so Shi felt no better option than to deal with them accordingly. With no hesitation, Shi would quickly form six hand seals and after doing so, raise her right hand into the air. For a moment, her chakra was connected with magnetic waves transferring through all the granules around her. As she did so, a cordon of sand would raise from the sand in front of her. Six bullets of sand would shoot from the sand she had spawned, three of the bullets heading for the snout of one of the Underlings and the other three headed for the same position on the other.

Shi had no clue where these creatures had come from, but she had to worry more about allowing them to get too close to her.. Something had to stir the sudden arrival of the creatures but she wanted to deal with them before trying to figure that out.

Shi answered in her signature style, in which she both insulted Yasei and helped him at the same time. Which was helpful, because she tossed the map aside as soon as she spoke. The boy shrugged, running his fingers through his messy white hair as they both seemed to move on.

Curiously, however, the pair was almost immediately halted by the appearance of two more insects. "Those definitely aren't scorpions." Shi had already assessed them as threats, and was aiming to kill them, and that seemed like the best course of action. The thief couldn't think of a single time an oversized insect in the desert ever had kind intentions. Yasei raised an ox seal and extended his arm, a massive current of electricity splitting the air as it zipped towards the two. The bolt of lightning crackled loudly as it split, putting both insects in its path of destruction.
